McCaffery is proud to announce and support, through its Community Development Entity, SCORE-CDE, an award of $6 million New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) and $3.14 million in matching State allocated funds to Green Era Chicago. Green Era will use the funds to develop a Renewable Energy and Urban Farming Campus in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood and further its mission to create sustainable communities by supporting local food production through better management of organic waste and access to nutrient dense soil.

On August 7, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker hosted a ground breaking on the site and announced the State’s support of the project with an additional $2 million Rebuild Illinois Shovel-Ready Sites grant.

The Green Era Urban Farm project consists of the remediation of a 9-acre brownfield site and construction of an anaerobic digester facility and several greenhouse structures. The project is estimated to generate 127 permanent jobs and 220 temporary construction jobs with anticipated delivery in 2022.

Community leaders and funding representatives gathered at the ground breaking.
