With the awarded funds, Alliance Steel will develop a new 200-250,000-square-foot building in East Chicago, Indiana. The new facility will initially offer 128 jobs and grow to 178 jobs over five years, as employee training is completed on newly installed equipment and drivers are added to handle extra volumes of steel.

The new East Chicago Alliance Steel facility will be constructed on land designated for industrial use that had been left vacant by Inland Steel in East Chicago, Indiana.

Community Alignment

Construction of the new steel manufacturing and distribution facility aligns with the City of East Chicago’s goal to redevelop the several vacant and underutilized industrial properties in the area and provide new employment opportunities to the community. It is anticipated that 65% of the newly created and retained full-time equivalent positions will be available to low-income persons in the area. In addition, within its first year, the Alliance Steel East Chicago facility is expected to support 54 indirect and induced jobs.
